Crowd joins The Babes Project in celebrating the opening of Croydon Pregnancy Support Centre

Life Network Australia - Saturday, February 25, 2012

Contributed by Helen Parker, Executive Director of The Babes Project.

The Babes Project recently celebrated Valentines Day with the opening of their Pregnancy Support Centre in Croydon.

With the mandate of supporting women in crisis pregnancy, promoting adoption and parenting as positive alternatives to abortion, The Babes Project will run the centre for women to access further support.

With over 80 people in attendance, the centre was overflowing.  Some highlights included the story of Kartya who shared her journey of adoption, abortion and crisis pregnancy as well as the first showing of “The Babes Project Story” which articulates the beginnings of the organisation and the heart behind it.

David Hodgett MP, conducted official proceedings and spoke of the importance of engaging with the issue of crisis pregnancy and how centre’s such as these can be utilised, becoming a great asset to the community.

Within the first days that the Pregnancy Support Centre was open, a young teen walked into the centre with her boyfriend and The Babes Project was able to provide her with free pregnancy testing and book her in for subsequent appointments.  This highlighted the immediate and great need for a service to be readily available to support those needing help, hope and support when they first discover they are pregnant.

The Babes project is working with local councils, community groups and health care services to ensure this is a centre which is utilised to it’s full capacity.

Real Help for Women.

Life Network Australia - Monday, November 07, 2011

By Bill Muehlenberg - Used with permission.

Whenever I speak on the subject of abortion I always remind my listeners that it is not enough to point the finger and simply say the obvious, that abortion is wrong. We must also provide practical help for those being pushed into an abortion.

I tell them that if a scared 15-year-old girl comes to them, pregnant and alone, with no hope, what will they be doing about it? What will they offer her? If her parents have kicked her out of the home and her boyfriend says ‘get an abortion or I’m leaving,’ where does that leave her?

Simply telling her she should not have an abortion does little good at all. Instead, churches and concerned groups should have pregnancy crisis centres as part of their ministry, making a safe and comfortable place available for people such as this. They can be looked after and loved as the baby develops, and upon birth various alternatives can be examined, such as adoption or other options.

This is the very practical and necessary work all believers should aim for, be it in their churches or elsewhere. We must do all we can to help women such as this. And of course such help has always been a part of the pro-life movement. Indeed, back in 1994 an important book highlighting this very thing appeared by Frederica Mathewes-Green.

Entitled Real Choices: Offering Practical, Life-Affirming Alternatives to Abortion, it did just that. Based on extension surveys and interviews with women considering abortion, she found that in “nearly every case, the abortion was undertaken to fulfil a felt obligation to another person, a parent or boyfriend. . . . The woman felt bound to please or protect some other person, and abortion was the price she had to pay.”

In her very helpful book she offers various alternatives to abortion, and shows us how we can make a real difference in the lives of these women. And as a perfect illustration of this, an article in the Australian press has just demonstrated such caring alternatives.

In a South Australian newspaper yesterday there appeared an article about a great prolifer who lives near Adelaide and is making genuine contributions to the lives of some of these women. Here is how the piece begins: “Robyn Grace is spending thousands helping pregnant women on temporary visas keep their babies. These pregnancies would otherwise be terminated.

“The 43-year-old Mt Barker resident is meeting the medical costs which the women and their partners can’t afford because they are being allowed into the country without private health insurance, have no access to Medicare and work in low paying jobs. ‘These woman are falling pregnant and facing abortions because the costs of having the baby are prohibitive,’ Mrs Grace said.

“She has funded five migrant births with the help of donations at a cost of around $7500 each since 2009. ‘They wanted to keep their babies and I helped out, but who knows how many others are out there in the same situation without anyone to turn to.’

“Mrs Grace is married to Trevor Grace, a controversial anti-abortion candidate at the last state election, and is currently helping Indian migrant Parvezraza Sherasia, 31, and his wife Zaynabben, 33, to have their second child. The Klemzig couple were going to terminate the unplanned pregnancy because they could not afford to pay for medical costs to have the baby.

“Mr Sherasia, who is employed as a storeman under a three-year working visa, said the couple went to a GP and explained their financial situation and were told they could visit a clinic for a ‘medical termination’. ‘At first we thought we would have to do it but my wife started to cry and that affected me,’ Mr Sherasia said. He pays income tax and the Medicare levy, but will not receive welfare benefits for his newborn under the temporary visa conditions.”

Now that is a real case of compassionate conservatism, of offering genuine choice for pregnant women. This is the sort of sacrificial help we must offer these women wherever possible. Not everyone will have the financial resources to make such donations, but if they have a supportive church or group around them, such funds might still become available.

And there are so many other ways we can offer real help here. Simply having crisis pregnancy centres set up with volunteers willing to lend a listening ear and a compassionate heart can go a long ways in this regard. The sky is really the limit in terms of what we can be doing for these women, so many of whom are being forced into having an abortion.

Most women would rather not have an abortion if they knew they had some tangible support and assistance during this difficult period. Prolifers can and should be offering such support. Well done to Robyn, Trevor and so many others who are making a practical and life-affirming difference in the lives of so many women.

And as if on cue, just as I was about to post this article, I received an email about an upcoming adoption conference. See the video here: www.youtube.com/watch?v=E5R349rjzvs&feature=player_embedded

Genesis Fundraising Dinner

Life Network Australia - Sunday, July 04, 2010

Genesis Pregnancy Support staff are excited to invite you along to our first ever fundraising dinner!

PLEASE SEE YOUR INVITATION ATTACHED

As volunteers with this organisation that has been serving women and babies for 19 years, we are thrilled at the recent expansion of services and also future possibilities that are beginning to unfold.

The main objectives of the dinner are:
- to bring together all our like minded supporters to share company, conversation and commitment to the cause, over a lovely meal.
- to acknowledge and thank you for your ongoing support of our work in heart, prayer, effort and finances.
- to raise the final amount of funds needed to pay for the ultra sound machine and also to undergird the plans for future service development.

The use of the ultrasound machine in conjunction with our crisis pregnancy counselling service will give us the incredibly important opportunity to offer women the option of viewing their baby, live in the womb, before they make the final decision about the future of their pregnancies.

Results in the USA show a 60% - 80% turnaround of decision from abortion to keeping their babies!

ALL THE FACTS CAN MAKE ……  ALL THE DIFFERENCE!

Again, we couldn’t have made it this far without you, and we can’t go any further without you either. All together we make a great team, so please come along for a wonderful evening of food, entertainment and inspiring speakers and guests.

Bring along your friends too!

See you there!

Training for Pregnancy Support Workers

Life Network Australia - Monday, April 26, 2010

The Priceless Life Centre (Brisbane) provides a crisis pregnancy help line, face to face appointments, pregnancy support, and post abortion support.

The PLC desire to see a cohesive and qualified group of counsellors and support workers across Queensland who are equipped to respond to the needs of people facing challenges because they are pregnant, especially those considering abortion.

As people change the way they think in relation to the unborn as a result of our advertising campaigns, there will be more and more women who choose life, who choose to keep their babies, and therefore there will be a greater need for pregnancy support.  Emily's Voice and Toowoomba City Women are teaming up with the Priceless Life Centre and bringing them to Toowoomba to train women who are interested in becoming pregnancy support workers.

The training session will include introduction to communication, self-awareness, ethics, abortion, post abortion, fertility and STI’s.  It will involve a distance education component as well as attendance at a weekend seminar on 19th & 20th June.  Cost for the training is $110.  Registration and enquiries to Liz Preston at info@pricelesslifecentre.org.au or call (07) 3856 3007.

              ---

Emily’s Voice recently sent out a call for those who would like a more active role in EV to attend a meeting and be mobilised! They now have a dedicated band of people who, using their own gifts and talents, are contributing to the impact Emily's Voice is having in Toowoomba and beyond.  People are praying, assisting with mail outs, staffing stalls, writing new promotional material, sourcing merchandise, liaising with churches, networking, hosting speaking opportunities and more.  If you are keen to be more involved, please email  info@emilysvoice.com

Donate for free ultrasound – When all the facts are needed

Life Network Australia - Wednesday, January 13, 2010

One of the most heartbreaking situations that a woman can find herself in, is to discover the foetal development of an aborted baby after the fact. The emotional and psychological impact can be extremely damaging and is often long term. Women deserve the opportunity to be fully informed about this development prior to making a decision about the future of their pregnancy.

‘IN-SIGHT’ is intended to enable women to access this information at the time of decision making by providing free and readily available ultra sound scanning: offering an immediate and convenient option of seeing the developmental stage of the foetus before making an irreversible choice.

Our goal, at Genesis, is to purchase a $50 000 machine which is portable and 4D compatible. So far, amazingly, we have raised $29 000!

Being portable, we will be able to make the machine available to other pro-life agencies as well, so that it is put to maximum use. With your help, we can do this, and be able to offer the first free ultra sound imaging available in South Australia.

Genesis Pregnancy Support is a pregnancy support agency providing options counselling for people facing an unplanned pregnancy. We provide telephone and face to face counselling free of charge and offer material assistance where possible. We also offer post abortion counselling. We are completly relient upon donations as we do not receive any funding. All our workers are volunteers.

To make a donation, contact Genesis at genesispregnancysupport@msn.com.
